Unbalanced Partnerships

If there is a creator, why would he/she allow unbalanced partnerships. Is there anything we could learn from one person having more feelings than the other? I don't think so. How the hell could inflicting pain on someone you care about be part of any 'master plan.' The word 'unrequited' belongs in the story of 'Cyrano de Bergerac' and no where else. If I recall correctly, even they lived 'happily-ever-after.'
